May 5, Day 2, stayed in Post Falls, ID: An uneventful first night… that was until
5:30am when we were awaken by police knocking at our door. We found ourselves in the middle of a crime
scene, surrounded by police! They were
looking for a gun that was used to kill a police officer during the night in
Coeur d’Alene. The suspect was found
hiding under a semi-trailer in the Post Falls, Idaho Walmart parking lot in
which we were camped, and the police wanted to know if we witnessed anything
during the night. After a couple of
hours they let us leave and we were on the road again.

Our visit to the Grant-Kohrs National Historic Site
highlighted the day. The park is a
working cattle ranch, commemorating the history of cattle barons and ranching
in the western U.S. Interesting
historical buildings and living history displays make this a worthwhile stop
for anyone travelling through Montana. Michele
was treated to a solid cup of “cowboy coffee” by a period costumed employee
operating from an authentic chuck wagon and an open fire. We spent the night at a Walmart in Bozeman,
MT next to Famous Dave’s BBQ house, now that was the way to top off the day!
